Using something with (으)로
The particle (으)로 can also be used to show what sort of method, material, machine, tool, channels or means were used with which something happens. For example this can translate to “using”, “by” or “with” among some other options.
Two examples:
- I went to school by train. → 학교에 기차로 갔어요.
- I wrote a letter with a pencil. → 편지를 연필로 썼어요.
How to attach (으)로
Section titled “How to attach (으)로”The attachment rule is the same as in the previous chapter:
- Attach
으로to a noun ending with a consonant. - Attach
로to a noun ending with a vowel, or ending with the letterㄹ.
Further examples
Section titled “Further examples”- I made thㄱee airplanes out of paper. → 비행기 세 대를 종이로 만들었어요.
- Please speak in English. → 영어로 말해 주세요.
- I ate with my hands. → 손으로 먹었어요.
- Please send it by email a little bit later. → 이따가 이메일로 보내 주세요.
